Gobsmacked. Humbled. Honored.

A NOTE FROM DEBORAH

Verdalina was named one of The 50 Best Clothing Stores in America by The New York Times Style section. I’m still processing. You dream of press like this—and now that its happened, my feelings keep moving between: gobsmacked, humbled, honored.

We’ve been in Richmond for twelve years. No investors, no expansion strategy, no plans to scale. Just a single storefront, a loyal (and stylish) community, and a belief that retail—real, in-person, tactile retail—matters when it’s driven by curiosity, conversation, and care.

I started Verdalina with the idea that fashion could be joyful and thoughtful, high-quality and low-pressure. That you could try something on and suddenly feel more like yourself. That you didn’t need to accumulate clothes, but rather, select just the right pieces—from designers who care about where things come from and how they’re made.

This recognition is a reminder: staying small can still make a big impact.
We’ll keep doing what we do—sourcing beautiful, well-made things from independent designers, making the shop feel like a good friend’s house, and welcoming you to browse and discover your personal style.

New friend or OG, thanks for being part of it. All of it. Truly.

PS. If you want to really deep dive, after watching the video and reading the article, take note of the Methodology the NYT used to choose their Top 50.
